As we go into the holidays, now is a great time to take a fresh look at boundaries; why we have them, and how they can be both kind and loving. Here's a video on boundaries from one of my favorite social workers, authors, and researchers, Brene Brown.

A Lesson Learned in the Game of Little League Baseball

This past season, my older son who is 7, reached the level of “serious baseball.” His team was off and on all season, until the last two games, when they were ON. They won their last two games and entered the playoffs on fire! They won their first two playoff games and had to win one more to get to the championship game.

Life Lessons in Improving Relationships

I am extremely fortunate to have great people and wonderful relationships in my life. Over the course of time, I’ve definitely had to learn how to maintain those relationships effectively. There are so many self-help books and articles in magazines that give us ideas on how to have healthy relationships and it is overwhelming! Here are a few things I’ve learned.

Bend Into Change

For those of you not familiar with Game of Thrones let me introduce you to Daenerys Targaryen. She is one of the lead female characters in the series and consistently breaks current day societal norms. She is powerful, ambitious, sympathetic (at times), and the mother of dragons (literally has three dragons, pretty cool, right?). While Game of Thrones is a fictional tale, I can't help but be in awe of this woman. While the season is unfortunately over I'm excited to see what the next season brings for this vivacious character.

The Happy Movie

As is typical in my field, I frequently find myself learning all kinds of new things from my patients. During a two week period right around Thanksgiving last year, I had three patients who, during their appointments, told me about a new documentary titled “Happy.” They all said I had to see it.  It was on Netflix at the time, so I gathered my family together over the holidays and we watched.
